Self-described as a "navy brat", he had dropped out of high school at the age of 18 and started out in the food business as a dishwasher and busboy. He had attended culinary school at Johnson and Wales University later on. Graham's first culinary job was working under Chef Dean at a five-star culinary school in Dallas, Texas and had appeared in many TV programmes, apparently to have cooking show-downs with chefs. In May, 2008, he opened Graham Elliot, his first restaurant, receiving three stars in the Chicago Tribune and two stars in the Michelin guide. Two things that I had not known about him were that he had cooked for The Heart and Stroke foundation once to support his nephew and that he had been sued and investigated for skimming tips from servers and bartenders, which was quite a controversity. The case was settled fairly quickly. He had also participated in several cook-offs against Bobby Flay when he was still a junior chef, but lost narrowly with such similar results. I have no choice but to applaud him as he was just a junior chef taking on someone so "big and huge".He had also been in many heart-breaking situations; many with pieces from the puzzles missing and the last one forcing him to close down his sandwich shop. Even though he looks like he is overweight, he would not be anymore if you bother to take some time off your busy sechedule to look at his past. He is now currently working with Gordon Ramsay and Joe Banstianich as a judge for the cooking competiton series Masterchef Junior. He is a fairly decent judge to me and I really believe that he would do well in his role as he is very kind and helpful; not as stern and intimidating as Gordon or Joe, even though they were probably just doing it for the sake of television.
